Northport Police Blotter: Man Flees Crash Scene; Email Scam Reported

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Aug. 25 through Aug. 31.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

Incidents

  • An injured deer got stuck in a fence on Clipper Drive on Aug. 25. An officer euthanized the deer and called the Northport Highway Department for disposal.
  • A woman tried depositing paychecks from her former employer approximately three weeks ago, she told police on Aug. 26. She was notified by her bank that the checks were fraudulent and not successfully deposited. The woman was refunded overdraft fees and did not incur any financial loss. An officer told the woman to contact her former employer to re-issue the paychecks.
  • A dog got loose on Scudder Place on Aug. 26. Police searched but could not find the dog.
  • A lost dog was found on Doris Avenue on Aug. 27. An officer reunited the dog with its owner.
  • A person suffered injuries in a motor vehicle crash on Ocean Avenue on Aug. 27. Northport Rescue brought the person to Huntington Hospital.
  • A man reported a potential road rage incident on Aug. 28. He said someone followed him from the parkway to the police department before taking off.
  • Summonses were issued to two vehicles parked in church spots on Union Place on Aug. 28.
  • A lost tackle box and fishing pole were brought into police headquarters on Aug. 28.
  • A man was overdosing on Lewis Road on Aug. 28. The Northport Fire Department brought him to Huntington Hospital.
  • Someone found a U.S. Passport Card and Global Entry Card on Main Street and turned the items over to police on Aug. 29. Attempts to contact the owner were not fruitful. An officer mailed the two cards to the Consular Lost and Stolen Passport Unit at the U.S. Department of State.
  • Police were called to Duffy Court for a report of a possible email scam on Aug. 29. A woman said her husband was on the computer and a pop-up came up stating that his computer was hacked and he had to contact "Alan" from Microsoft. Thinking that "Alan" was a Microsoft employee, the husband allowed him to virtually take control of his computer. The woman is nervous that this person gained access to everything on their computer. The caller had already cancelled and ordered new credit cards, police said. The officer advised the caller to access all of their bank accounts to determine if they have potentially received a monetary loss and then contact police if they do suffer a loss.
  • A person was found dead on Waterview Lane on Aug. 29, believed to be from natural causes, police said. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner responded and took custody of the deceased.
  • A petty larceny was reported on Main Street on Aug. 29.
  • A man was issued a ticket instead of being arrested in connection with leaving the scene of an incident on Salt Aire Place on Aug. 29, police said.
  • A damaged ladder was reported on Village Dock on Aug. 30. Caution tape was placed around the ladder.
