Northport Police Blotter: Person Steals From Store; Petty Theft Reported

ALSO: Broken gate reported; sunken boat pulled from harbor; two dead raccoons found; and more, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Aug. 18 through Aug. 24.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A motor vehicle crash was reported on Harbor Circle on Aug. 18. Northport police waited for assistance from Suffolk police.
  • A woman stole $102 worth of merchandise from Nest on Main on Aug. 18, police said.
  • Police were called to Mariners Lane for a welfare check on a person around 5:50 p.m. Aug. 20. Police found the person to have died of natural causes.
  • An iPhone was turned into police headquarters on Aug. 22. Its owner came in to retrieve her phone.
  • Water was coming out of the ground on Burt Avenue on Aug. 22. The Suffolk County Water Authority was making a repair by the time Northport police arrived. The Northport Highway Department was also notified.
  • A Main Street business owner reported an attempted petty theft around 11:45 a.m. Aug. 22, police said. The owner said that someone wearing a blue wig tried to take several clothing items without paying, but dropped all merchandise when confronted and left the area.
  • A dead raccoon was found on Doris Court on Aug. 22. The carcass was turned over to the Department of Health.

  • A sunken boat was reported west of channel marker three on the west side of the harbor around 3 p.m. Aug. 22. SeaTow was attempting to float the sunken vessel and stated that it will take it to the Northport Yacht Club for removal from the harbor.
  • A summons was issued to the owner of a vehicle parked illegally on Woodbine Avenue on Aug. 22.
  • A backpack was found in Constitution Square on Aug. 23. The founder brought it to police headquarters. The backpack contained a couple of ice packs with assorted children juice boxes.
  • A dog got loose on Dogwood Road on Aug. 23. Officers could not find the dog.
  • A man said he returned to his car after a farmers market on Scudder Avenue on Aug. 23 and found his driver's side view mirror was popped off and laying on the hood of his car.
  • A motor vehicle crash was reported on Main Street around 2:20 p.m. Aug. 23. A driver told police he was traveling eastbound on Main Street and yielded at the crosswalk sign to allow pedestrians to cross when another driver rear-ended him. The woman denies rear-ending the driver, saying she had stopped in time and no contact was made. The officer did not observe damage to either vehicle.
  • A summons was issued to the owner of a vehicle that was blocking a driveway on Bayview Avenue on Aug. 24.
  • A broken gate was reported on Main Street on Aug. 24. It was reported as a criminal mischief.
