Northport Police Blotter: Vehicle Crashes Through Home

A pregnant woman was inside the home, police say. ALSO: Woman thwarts scam, hit-and-run, dropped 911 call leads to empty home, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from May 13 through May 19.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A woman went into police headquarters on May 13 to tell officers she found ammunition while clearing out her late mother's home. The ammunition was placed in the gun locker to be destroyed.
  • A woman went to police headquarters on May 14 to report a scam. She said she received a bill in the mail for an outstanding mortgage payment, but she knew it was a scam because she no longer has a mortgage. She said she never contacted the number on the mail or gave any sensitive information to anyone. She did not lose any money at this time.
  • A person was issued a trespassing affidavit for Salted. On the Harbor and Wine Cellar on Main on May 14.
  • A man was issued an appearance ticket instead of being arrested for littering at Steers Beach on May 16.
  • A petty larceny was reported at Cork Tree Fine Wines on May 16.
  • A driver fled following a motor vehicle crash on Asharoken Avenue around 4 p.m. May 17. Northport police responded to assist Suffolk and Asharoken police. Officers found the vehicle and the driver and escorted them back to the crash scene. Suffolk police handled the scene.
  • A caller told police there was a van attempting to pull an oversized vessel at the boat ramp of Scudder Park on May 18. The owner told police he was attempting to pull his boat out of the water with a trailer that is attached to his vehicle by a cargo strap. Police told the owner that he can not attempt to pull his boat out and has to get his boat removed professionally or with a different trailer, which he agreed to do.
  • An officer responded to Waterside Avenue regarding a 911 hang-up at 12:50 p.m. May 18. The officer found the residence empty and call back attempts went unanswered.
  • A male suffered injuries from a fall at Scudder Park on May 18. A witness told police that the male was climbing a tree which uprooted and fell while the male was near the top. Northport Rescue responded brought him to Huntington Hospital. Photos of the tree were taken. A copy of the report was forwarded to the Northport Village Clerk's office.
  • A vehicle crashed through a Laurel Avenue home on May 19. A pregnant woman who was inside the house wanted to get looked at because of concern for her unborn baby. She was brought to Huntington Hospital by Northport Fire and Rescue.
  • An injured raccoon on Burt Avenue was euthanized and disposed of by police on May 19.
  • Police were called to Steers Beach on May 19. The caller told police a group of male teenagers was following a group of teenage girls around the beach and then left the area altogether in their vehicles.
