Police Log: Garbage Can Fire, Man Knocked Unconscious

Excerpts from the Northport Police Department log.

Tuesday, April 10

At 8:41 p.m., police responded to a Bayview Avenue location for a man who was unresponsive after he was struck by wooden piling that was being moved. Officers found the man conscious, breathing and responding to voice. Northport Rescue transported him to Southside Hospital.

At 6:46 p.m., Darren Prisco, 51, of Centerport, fled police after authorities say they attempted to pull over his swerving vehicle on Fort Salonga Road. He was arrested the next day at 12:08 a.m. at his home. He was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer and more.

Wednesday, April 11

At 1:16 p.m., police responded to a report of a garbage can on fire at CVS Pharmacy, located on Fort Salonga Road. The fire was extinguished and Northport Fire secured the area.

Friday, April 13

At 5:09 p.m., a ring found at Cow Harbor Park was turned over to police. The ring was appraised by a local jeweler, who determined the ring was costume jewelry.

Saturday, April 14

At 3:17 p.m., police responded to a Scudder Avenue location for the report of BB gun holes. Two holes, one upstairs and one in the downstairs kitchen, appeared to be a result of a BB gun.

Tuesday, April 17

At 2:48 p.m., police received a report that a man was placing garbage cans in the street to reserve parking spots for his numerous vehicles on Ward Avenue. Police spoke to man, who said he will try to get along with his neighbor better in the future and won't hold spots using garbage cans anymore.

At 9:01 p.m., police responded to a domestic incident over a pot of pasta that a boyfriend cooked and and did not clean up on Waterside Avenue. The food ended up on the wall and in the girlfriend's hair.

Friday, April 20

At 2:46 p.m., police received a report of a phone scam in which a "David Schulmann" contacted an elderly woman on Highland Avenue and said her granddaughter was arrested and needed $2,000 in Best Buy gift cards for bail. The woman told police she purchased the gift cards but had not called back yet. Officers advised the woman the call was a scam and that the number came back to China. Officers called "David Schulmann" and advised him to stop scamming people. The woman was able to return the unredeemed gift cards.

Friday, April 27

At 1:33 a.m., Danielle Ryan, 31, of Northport, was arrested and charged with DWI and multiple traffic violations on Laurel Avenue, Scudder Avenue, Church Street and Edgaret Place.
