Second Annual Wounded Warriors Weekend Planned

Date set for Sept. 6-8, 2013.

After a successful first year, the Cow Harbor Warriors are planning their second annual weekend event dedicated to veterans.

The second annual Wounded Warriors Weekend is set for Sept. 6-8, according to the group's Facebook Page. It will fall in between Labor Day and Cow Harbor Day, marking a busy month for Northport's downtown and waterfront.

2012's Warrior Weekend included a parade for wounded veterans down Main Street, a 4-mile 'Warrior Run' from Crab Meadow Beach, and a series of veteran's events including a fishing tournament, a golf tournament, adaptive sports, and a sunset clambake on the beach. The details of this year's events have not yet been revealed, though there is talk of a concert.

“Before there could be independence, there had to be people willing to suffer and die to earn it," Doll said at the time. "A single day isn’t enough to adequately thank [veterans] for their service, but it is an effective way to remind everyone of freedom’s real, human costs.”
