NORTHPORT, NY — Mario and Daisy, 7-month-old bonded siblings, are the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Kittens of the Week.

"I know we can all agree that a cage is no place for some loving kitties for the holidays…or ever for that matter," said Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue. "But these two sweet souls have come so far. After being rescued from outside, they were so scared that they sat in a corner hissing at anyone that tried to get near them. Usually, Daisy hiding behind her brother, Mario."

They went into an "amazing," foster home, Wild said. After people worked with the two kittens for some time, they suddenly started to trust and enjoy the love from people, according to Wild.

"They are still a bit shy," she said. "They will need someone to be a little patient with them until they are comfortable when adopted; but they are ready for their forever home — together. They need a home to run around in and stretch and cuddle and play. They just need someone to take a chance on them!"

They are currently at Doggie Don’s in East Northport, waiting for someone to notice them, Wild said.

"If you are considering adopting, please consider these two beautiful kittens," she said. "They have watched a few other cage mates come and go, and yet they still wait. Daisy will give air biscuits while watching the other kittens getting adopted, perhaps hoping they will choose her and her brother instead. They need to be shown a life of love and trust, and we know these two will be an incredible pair to adopt."

The Northport Cat Rescue Association is set to host its last adoption event of the year. It will be some of these kittens' final attempt at capturing someone’s heart and getting out of their cages before the New Year, Wild said.

"If you are looking for something amazing to happen in your life, try rescuing one of these beautiful fur babies," she said. "We promise it will change your life in so many wonderful ways. First and foremost, the amount of love and snuggles and thankfulness you will receive that day and every day thereafter."

The rescue's event will be at Petco Commack, at 30 Veterans Memorial Highway, Commack, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21.

Mario and Daisy are neutered or spayed, have all their shots, are litter box-trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.
