NORTHPORT, NY — Mubi and Morty, best friends just over 1 year old, are the Northport Cat Rescue Association’s Kittens of the Week.

Mubi was born in May 2024, and Morty in June 2024. They were both rescued from outdoors as just kittens, said Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue.

"They met in foster care and have since become best friends (or perhaps boyfriend and girlfriend) and must be adopted together," Wild said. "They were very nervous when they first came into rescue, but are now sweet and affectionate, and ready for adoption."

Morty is a super playful and a curious tabby cat, according to Wild. He loves playing laser and chasing the occasional bug around, but not as much as he loves playing with his favorite toy: a ball on a track. He loves Churu cat treats, especially when it is spoon fed to him. Sometimes, Mubi and Morty will even share the same spoon, Wild said.

"Mubi may be a bit shyer than Morty, but once you get her to come out of her shell, it is so worth it!" Wild said.

She loves playing laser with Morty and likes to hang out in the window catching a sunbeam. She has beautiful Russian-blue like fur, and a sweet face to match, Wild said.

"Both Morty and Mubi want to be where their people are," Wild said. "They really enjoy being around other cats and would do very well in a house with some feline friends. This sweet pair has been waiting so long. We put them in one of our habitats at Doggie Don's in East Northport and they became very withdrawn and depressed. For this reason, they must be adopted out of foster care. This is not an easy task, because it limits their exposure to potential adopters. Please share their story so that we can get the word out about this gentle and loving pair. Best friends for life, they would be lost without each other."

Morty and Mubi are neutered and spayed, have all their shots, are litter box-trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.
