NORTHPORT, NY — Joanie and Richie, a bonded mom and son, are the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Cats of the Week.

Joanie is around 6 years old, while Richie is around 5 years old, according to Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue.

"They were being taken care of by a lovely man, who sadly passed away," Wild said. "The only home they ever knew was being sold, with no regard for the cats, and they were found roaming around the home, outside, by an old family friend."

The woman would visit the house daily to feed the cats. She contacted Northport Cat Rescue Association, which took them into the rescue.

"They were cautious at first, but sweet," Wild said. "Once in foster care, they thrived. They are mild- mannered and sweet kitties and even love other cats, too. Richie can be a bit timid at first, but once he warms up to you, expect lots of headbutts, nuzzles and kitty kisses."

Joanie is the "ultimate lap cat," according to Wild. She loves to be brushed and has the "deepest and loudest purr."

"When she is not curled up in your lap or snuggling with her son, she loves nothing more than watching the world go by from a window," Wild said. "Are you looking for the purrfect pair? They are no longer kittens, but they are still young! Their personalities are here to stay. What you see is what you get. It is not always easy for a pair of cats that are no longer tiny kittens to get adopted. Joanie is a chunky monkey, and her snuggles are nothing less than amazing. Once you break through to Richie, the reward is loyalty like no other. They just need a chance."

Joanie and Richie are spayed and neutered, have all their shots, are litter box-trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.

"We know their forever family is out there, and hope there will be nothing but 'Happy Days' ahead of them," Wild said.
