Park Slope’s First Baby of 2013: Gena

While New Year’s Eve revelers rang in the New Year at the stroke of midnight, a baby in Park Slope was getting ready to take its first breath.

According to New York Methodist Hospital, the first baby born in its birthing center in 2013 was born at 12:54 a.m.

After several hours of labor in the Seventh Avenue hospital, Park Sloper Jungmin Oh, with husband Benjamin Brown right next to her, gave birth their daughter, Gena.  

“We didn’t care whether she was the first baby of the year, or anything like that,” Benjamin, the new father, told New York Methodist Hospital. “We just were hoping that she would be happy and healthy. We can’t think of a better way to start 2013.”

Gena weighs seven pounds, two ounces and is 19.5 inches in length.
