STONY BROOK, NY — The first baby of the New Year born at Stony Brook University Hospital was a boy, hospital officials said.

Alicia DelliPizzi and Daryl Costa welcomed their son, Theo Everest Costa, weighing 8 lbs. 2 oz., at around 2 a.m., according to hospital officials.

The baby was delivered by Kathleen Sharrott and Catherine Leonard, hospital officials said.

In a statement released by the hospital, the couple, who are from Medford, addressed the baby, "This New Year surpasses all others because we're stepping into it with you in our arms."
