RONKONKOMA, NY — Thursday marks two years since a Long Island man was fatally struck on the Long Island Expressway with no arrest in the case, Suffolk police said.
Investigators renewed their efforts again reaching out to the public seeking help in identifying the driver who they say fled the scene after killing Robert Twiford, who had parked his vehicle on the off-ramp of eastbound LIE Exit 60.
The Melville resident had gotten out of his vehicle, and, while in the lane of travel, he was struck by a vehicle at around 8 p.m. on Dec. 5, 2022, police said, adding that a short time later, the driver of the fleeing vehicle stopped on Garrity Avenue in Ronkonkoma and got out to examine it with a flashlight.
