4 Charged In Memorial Day Weekend DWI Crackdown In Patchogue: Police
In the joint operation between Suffolk police and the sheriff's department, 451 cars passed through the checkpoint, cops say.
PATCHOGUE, NY — Four motorists were arrested during an overnight sobriety checkpoint as part of a holiday crackdown targeting alcohol and drug impaired driving in Patchogue Friday into Saturday morning, Suffolk police said.
Police officers from the Suffolk police's Highway Patrol Bureau SAFE-T Team conducted a joint sobriety checkpoint operation with the county's deputy sheriffs at Waverly Plaza from 11 p.m. until around 2:30 a.m., while volunteers and staff from Mothers Against Drunk Driving gave out educational information to motorists, according to police.
A total of 451 vehicles went through the checkpoint, but the following were charged with driving while intoxicated:

• A 43-year-old man from Deer Park.
• A 29-year-old woman from Mahanoy City, PA.
• A 35-year-old from Smithtown.
A 26-year-old man from Medford was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs.

They were arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
