5 Arrested At Sobriety Checkpoint

Police set up a sobriety checkpoint in Patchogue Friday night as part of an ongoing holiday weekend enforcement initiative.

Five people were arrested during an overnight sobriety checkpoint in Patchogue, police said.

Officers from the Suffolk County Police Department Highway Patrol Bureau’s Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team (SAFE-T), assisted by New York State troopers, conducted the checkpoint at Waverly Plaza at 361 North Sunrise Highway Service Road.

The checkpoint was part of an ongoing holiday enforcement initiative targeting alcohol and drug impaired driving. A total of 487 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

The following people were charged with DWI:

  • Raymond Brunette, 50, of Lake Grove
  • Shawn Riley, 34, of Bellport
  • Alyssa Marek, 23, of Islip Terrace
  • Ronald Cusano, 49, of Bay Shore

John Esposito, 29, of West Babylon, was charged with driving while under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs.
