'Betty White Challenge' Donations Sought In Brookhaven

Residents looking to help the Brookhaven Animal Shelter can donate online or by mail to honor the late comedian's 100th birthday on Jan. 17.

BROOKHAVEN, NY — Brookhaven officials are urging anyone wishing to take part in the "Betty White Challenge"honoring the actress' love of animals on her 100th birthday to donate to the town's animal shelter and adoption center in Brookhaven.

The Betty White Challenge started on social media after her death on Dec. 31 with a call for people to donate to the animal welfare advocate 's favorite cause — by supporting their local animal shelter and rescue organization — with a $5 donation on what would have been her 100th birthday on Jan. 17.

Donations can be made online at BrookhavenNY.gov/BettyWhiteChallenge, or they can be sent by check to “Brookhaven Town” with “Animal Shelter-Betty White Challenge” to Town of Brookhaven Department of Finance, 1 Independence Hill, Farmingville, 11738.
