A piece of a sign for The Learning Experience on Mark Tree Road in Centereach was set on fire at around 6:15 p.m. on Nov. 25, police said. The owner of the sign declined to proceed with pressing charges in connection with the crime, which was classified as fifth-degree arson, according to police.

EAST PATCHOGUE
Two people were taken to the hospital after a crash on the westbound side of Sunrise Highway in East Patchogue on Nov. 12, police said.
They were involved in a two-vehicle crash in which one veered off the roadway and into the woods just before 11 p.m., according to police. Both drivers were taken to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue for treatment of minor injuries, police said.
SETAUKETA Coram man broke into a home in Setauket and pretended to be a police officer on Thanksgiving eve, a Suffolk spokeswoman said.
James Reilly, 33, went inside the Gables Boulevard home without the resident's permission, and claimed he was a police officer at around 11:40 a.m., according to police. Reilly was charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, and criminal impersonation, a misdemeanor, police said.
Reilly's arraignment information was not available.
RONKONKOMA
A Farmingville woman robbed a taxi driver's vehicle in Ronkonkoma on Nov.25, police said.
At around 7:20 p.m., Virginia Thebaud argued with the driver about paying, then cut them and made off in the vehicle, according to police. The driver was treated at a local hospital for a laceration to their hand, police said.
Thebaud was charged with second-degree robbery, according to police.
Her arraignment information was not available.
SHIRLEY
- A 911 caller reported seeing a person with a knife in the parking lot of Lidl on Montauk Highway in Shirley just before 1 a.m. on Nov. 13, police said. Officers could not located the person, and did not receive any similar reports, according to police.
- A 40-year-old Shirley man was charged with second-degree menacing after police say he threatened to harm a woman with a garden stone at her Manorville home on Saturday.
- A 24-year-old Shirley man reported he was the victim of identity theft in a phone scam on Saturday, police said. He told police that he received multiple texts saying money was taken out of his bank account, and then he found out it was linked to a PayPal account that he did not set up, according to police.
