Long Island Dad Who Crashed Car With 5-Month-Old Son Inside Charged With DWI: Police
No one was hurt when he crashed the car at around 2:15 a.m. on the Long Island Expressway, Suffolk cops say.
LONG ISLAND, NY — A father was charged with driving while intoxicated early Saturday morning after he crashed his car on the Long Island Expressway in Melville while his five-month-old son was inside, Suffolk police said.
Angel Abadcando was driving a 2009 Honda Civic sedan eastbound near Exit 49, when he stopped abruptly and was rear-ended by another vehicle at around 2:15 a.m., police said, adding that officers determined he exhibited signs of intoxication then placed him into custody.
There were no injuries reported, police said.

Abadcando, 44, of Patchogue, was charged with two counts of driving while intoxicated, endangering the welfare of a child, and aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child Passenger 15 years or younger under Leandra’s Law.
Leandra's Law is named for Leandra Rosado, 11, who was the passenger of a car driven by a drunk driver and died after it crashed.

The Honda was impounded for a safety check.
Abadcando is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
