Firefighters Battle 2 Brush Fires Wednesday Across Brookhaven Town
Two firefighters were taken to Long Island Community Hospital after a Brookhaven landfill fire, South Country Ambulance says.
BROOKHAVEN TOWN, NY — Firefighters battled two brush fires within three hours across Brookhaven Town, one injuring two firefighters at the landfill, on Wednesday night, Suffolk police said.
The first fire broke out at about 6 p.m. near Old Town Road and Bank Street in Selden, and was doused by the Selden Fire Department.
The second fire broke out at the Brookhaven landfill at Horseblock Road and Woodside Avenue in North Bellport just before 8 p.m. The Brookhaven Fire Department responded to the scene, according to its Facebook page.

South Country Ambulance Company officials said members were dispatched to standby while the fire department was fighting a fire on top of the landfill, according to another post. Firefighter rehabilitation was performed and two firefighters were taken to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
