Laundries To Give Gabby Petito's Belongings To Family: Attorney
Arrangements will be made for the belongings — at the Laundries' home in North Port, Florida — to be given to her family.

SARASOTA, FL — Gabby Petito's belongings will be returned to her family in the wake of a legal claim that was filed in a Florida court, the Laundrie family's attorney said on Tuesday.
Petito's mother, Nichole Schmidt, filed a claim seeking the slain Long Islander's belongings — going on the record in the legal process as the family of Brian Laundrie seeks access to his $20,000 estate, the US Sun first reported.
East Islip attorney Steven Bertolino described the filing of the estate as "a formality."

In an email to Patch, he said "arrangements will be made so that the personal belongings of Gabby Petito that are currently located at the home of Chris and Roberta Laundrie will be given to Gabby's family without a contest."
The Petito/Schmidt family attorney, Rick Stafford of Bohemia, was not immediately available for comment.

Laundrie was the sole person of interest in the disappearance of Petito, his fiancée, who was found strangled to death near Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming in September. Laundrie is believed to have shot himself in the head in early September.
The Laundries filed a petition earlier this month seeking access to the estate of their son, who did not have a will prepared, formally requesting to become beneficiaries with the probate division in Sarasota County.

It was not clear what belongings Schmidt is seeking from the Laundries.
The Sun reported that the claim reads that its basis is for "the possession or control of personal property of Gabby Petito," and the amount of property is unknown.
"The claim is contingent or unliquidated because it is unknown if the decedent's final photos, videos, and words are contained in the property," the claim reads, according to the outlet.
