On March 30, at around 8 p.m., officers responded to several 911 calls reporting a man bleeding profusely in the parking lot of the Heatherwood Apartment Complex in East Patchogue, and banging on doors while yelling for help, according to prosecutors.

Upon arrival, officers learned that 24-year-old Justin Evans was taken to NYU Langone - Suffolk Hospital in East Patchogue, where trauma surgeons tried to treat him for stab wounds to his neck and torso, prosecutors said, adding that despite the efforts of medical personnel who provided massive blood transfusions to save his life, he succumbed to his injuries.

As the investigation ensued, detectives from the Homicide Squad learned Evans had allegedly been with Antwane Lee, 31, of Bay Shore, at the complex, and earlier in the evening, Lee allegedly became angry with Evans during an argument and retrieved a large, serrated hunting knife, prosecutors said.

He then allegedly lunged at Evans with the knife, stabbing him in the neck and torso, and after he was stabbed, Evans, bleeding profusely, ran to the door of a nearby apartment and began banging on the door, begging for help, prosecutors said, adding that Lee ultimately took Evans to the hospital, but allegedly left Evans at the door to the Emergency Room.

He then allegedly fled in a 2016 Nissan Altima but later turned himself in to the Homicide Squad, prosecutors said.

Police allegedly recovered a large knife with what appeared to be blood from the crime scene, according to prosecutors.
