Patchogue Man Gets 20 Years For Raping Child
He was convicted of raping a young girl at a Memorial Day party in 2012, and will now spend decades behind bars.

A judge sentenced a Patchogue man to 20 years and six months for raping a child in 2012.
Gary Grigg, 31, was convicted of first-degree rape, first-degree criminal sexual act and two counts of first-degree sexual abuse — all felonies.
“Victims of rape or sexual assault are often afraid to come forward and report their abusers to law enforcement, but we are here to help and protect you,” District Attorney Tim Sini said. “In this case, police were not contacted until the victim knew this defendant was behind bars, and our office made sure that is where he is going to stay for a long time. This is a significant prison sentence and I thank Assistant District Attorney Laurie Moroff for bringing this sexual predator to justice.”

The child attempted to resist, but Grigg used forced and then threatened the victim not to tell anyone.

In August 2016, the child learned Grigg was in prison for sexually assaulting and robbing a woman on Main Street in Patchogue on June 29, 2013. Grigg pleaded guilty on June 11, 2014 to robbery in connection with the assault. He was sentenced on Aug. 1, 2014 to 13 years in prison. Upon learning that Grigg was incarcerated, the child told a family member of the 2012 rape, and the family member then contacted police.
Following an investigation by the district attorney’s office and the Suffolk County Police Department’s Special Victims Section, Grigg was indicted in October 2018.
Grigg was sentenced yesterday by Suffolk County Acting Supreme Court Justice Mark D. Cohen to 20 years and six months in prison followed by 20 years of post-release supervision. He was certified as a sex offender at the time of his guilty plea.
