“The K9s are important members of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s office, helping to not only protect our facilities and staff but also serving as a deterrent to those trying to smuggle illicit items into the jails,” he said.

Sato received his formal training in Narcotics Detection with the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department.

His primary responsibilities include conducting searches of inmate housing units, screening packages, and patrolling during visitation hours.

The Sheriff’s office will further expand its K9 program with the addition of a fourth corrections K9 this summer, made possible by a grant from the United States Police Canine Association.
