Passenger Seriously Hurt In Suffolk Crash; Driver Charged With DWI: Police

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — A 21-year-old man was charged with driving while intoxicated after his passenger was seriously injured in a motor vehicle crash in Patchogue early Monday morning, police said.

The 21-year-old Patchogue man was driving a 2016 BMW eastbound on Sunrise Service Road at Medford Avenue when it left the roadway and struck multiple trees at around 3:20 a.m., and a female passenger in the vehicle was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to police.

The passenger's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said, adding that the man, who is from Yaphank, was taken to NYU Langone Hospital – Suffolk in East Patchogue with minor injuries.

The man is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.

The BMW was impounded for a safety check, according to police.
