Police Presence Increased In Suffolk After Boulder, CO Attack

There are no threats locally, but investigators are monitoring the situation and will continue to share information, officials say.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Suffolk officials said Sunday that while the county has not received information of similar threats locally in relation to the reported terror incident in Colorado, the police department has increased its presence in the vicinity of religious institutions and houses of worship.

Investigators are monitoring the situation and will continue to share information with law enforcement partners, County Executive Ed Romaine and Commissioner Kevin Catalina said in a joint statement on Sunday night.

"Anti-semitism cannot be tolerated, and the men and women of the county's law enforcement community will continue to do all it can to protect every resident in this county," the statement concluded.

One man has been taken into custody after people were hurt and some may have been set on fire at a mall in Boulder, CO, in what police have described as a "targeted terror attack," The Associated Press reported.

Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn said it was too early to discuss a motive but witnesses are being interviewed, adding, "It would be irresponsible for me to speculate on motive this early on," the outlet reported.
