Stony Brook Restaurant Set To Reopen After Fire

Luca, closed since late January, will reopen for dinner on Thursday, and lunch will resume on March 19, the owners say.

STONY BROOK, NY — Luca will reopen Thursday after being closed for over a month following a fire, Stony Brook Village officials said in an email.

The Italian restaurant, which has been under construction, will be back "better than ever" for dinner hours starting at 5 p.m. Lunch hours will resume on March 19.

"Thank you once again to our community for your incredible support during their closure," village officials said.

The restaurant has been closed since late January after what Town of Brookhaven fire officials say was a fire caused by a failed heating unit with space above the kitchen.

The fire was deemed accidental but the building was deemed unsafe for occupancy due to damage to the electrical systems and minor structural damage, Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshal Chris Merhman previously told Patch.

The fire reportedly ripped through the back of the restaurant.

In a post to its website, the owners thanked the Stony Brook Fire Department, Village Center, and the Town of Brookhaven for helping them reopen "as fast as possible."
