Suffolk Police Monitoring, Stepping Up Patrols After Mass Shooting In Australia On Hanukkah
"While there are no threats locally, the department is in constant contact with its law enforcement partners," county officials say.

YAPHANK, NY — Suffolk police are monitoring developments in the wake of the mass shooting that during a Hanukkah celebration in Australia over the weekend, according to a joint statement from County Executive Ed Romaine and Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina.
"While there are no threats locally, the department is in constant contact with its law enforcement partners," the statement said. "As always, the department has stepped up patrols around religious institutions during the holidays and has now enhanced those efforts."
They continued by saying that they are reaching out to Jewish community leaders and are asking anyone who sees suspicious activity to call 911.

A father and son duo are suspected of killing 15 people on Bondi Beach, one of the world's most popular tourist beach attractions, The Associated Press reported.
The father, a 50-year-old who was killed, arrived in Australia in 1998 on a student visa, and was an Australian resident, the outlet reported.
