YAPHANK, NY — A woman was seriously hurt in a crash on the Long Island Expressway in Yaphank Monday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

A 62-year-old East Patchogue man was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Trail Blazer westbound in the right lane of the expressway, near Exit 67, when he tried to move the SUV to the center lane and struck a 2012 Dodge Ram being driven in the same direction by a 30-year-old Bohemia resident just before 1 p.m., according to police.

The impact forced the SUV into the guardrail, and a passenger, a 33-year-old East Patchogue woman, was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
