PLAINVIEW, NY — After decades of serving Long Islanders, the Plainview Diner will be closing its doors forever at the end of the month.

The diner first opened in 1972, and has been serving residents for the 50 years since. Owner John Papavasilopoulos is retiring, his son told Newsday, and it is unlikely anyone will purchase the diner to keep it open as is.

The diner's 30-year lease is also up this year.

According to News 12, the diner's last day of business is Sept. 25.

“We had a tough time during the pandemic, but business has picked back up recently," Papavasilopoulos's son, Niko, told Newsday. "Still, this business isn’t what it used to be and it seemed like the right time for my father to retire.”
