Antisemitism At 'Frightening Levels'; Pro-Israel Sign Ripped: Lawmaker

Two people were arrested on Monday for vandalizing a "We Stand with Israel" at Shelter Rock Jewish Center.

PLAINVIEW, NY — Amid the arrest of two people vandalizing a "We Stand with Israel" sign outside Shelter Rock Jewish Center, a local lawmaker is addressing the incident.

"As antisemitism soars to new and frightening levels around the world, it is more essential than ever to combat this pernicious scourge wherever and whenever it surfaces," Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D–Plainview) said in a statement.

An 18-year-old and a 14-year-old were arrested on Monday, police said.

"The Nassau County Police Department’s tireless efforts continue to bring us comfort and security at this fraught time, and I am grateful that their vigilance and professionalism empowers Nassau residents of all faiths to live, work, and worship freely and safely," Drucker said.

Rabiah Rafiq, 18, was charged with criminal facilitation and endangering the welfare of a child. The 14-year-old boy was given an appearance ticket for criminal mischief as an e-felony/bias crime. He is due back in court on Oct. 28, police said.
