Dream Car Restorations, Group Behind 'Lost Corvettes,' Opening LI Shop
The company wants to open a new restoration garage on Long Island. They previously restored and gave away 36 classic Corvettes.

PLAINVIEW, NY — A high-end car restoration company that was featured in a History Channel documentary series is looking to come to Long Island, and open a new shop in Plainview.
Dream Car Restorations applied with the Town of Oyster Bay to open a new facility at 45 South Service Road, just off the Long Island Expressway. The location is one part of a larger facility, and is located near both Ferrari and Maserati dealerships.
The owners, Chris Mazzilli and Dave Bloom, are known for their work on "The Lost Corvettes." In 1989, VH1 held a contest to give away 36 Corvettes — one from each production year of the car. The winner of the contest — Dennis Amodeo, of Long Island — got the cars, and they transferred ownership a few times before ending up in a garage and deteriorating.

When they were rediscovered, Dream Cars was called in to assess and restore the cars. Instead of selling them, Dream Cars gave the Corvettes away in a sweepstakes, and in the process donated money to Stand for the Troops. The restoration and give-away of the cars was turned into the History Channel docu-series.
Dream Cars now wants to open a new facility in Plainview. They facility will be used to restore classic cars to pristine condition. A site inspection found that there is enough parking in the area to support the business. There also wouldn't be any construction done to the outside of the building.

Some of the restorations take a long time, the owners said. But long-term projects would be kept at an off-site storage facility while waiting for parts.
