Former Long Islander, Mets Great Ed Kranepool Has Died At 79
Kranepool played all 18 years in the majors for the New York Mets.

OLD BETHPAGE, NY — Mets legend, and former Old Bethpage resident, Ed Kranepool has died. He was 79.
Kranepool died Sunday in Boca Raton, Florida from a cardiac arrest, the New York Post reported.
Kranepool, who was born in the Bronx, played his entire Major League career with the New York Mets. It was an 18-year run that started as the franchise debuted in 1962.

A fixture at first base, Kranepool was a member of the 1969 "Miracle Mets" World Series Champion team, and the National League pennant-winning 1973 team.
Kranepool owns the Mets record for most games played at 1,853, SNY.com said. His 681 RBI is the fifth most in franchise history.

Health problems beleaguered the fan favorite, as Kranepool had a kidney transplant in 2019. He also suffered from diabetes.
