Ghana Comes to Pasadena Elementary Via Skype

Plainview Third Graders learn About Ghanaian life and culture .

Plainview's Pasadena Elementary School students were recently treated to cross-continental learning without having to leave the classroom.

Thanks to an organization called Innovations for Poverty Action, a nonprofit dedicated to helping the world’s poor that is run through Yale university and the University of Ghana, students Ms. Macedonio’s and Ms. Wisoky’s third grade classes had the unique opportunity to Skype with students in Ghana, Africa.

During their Skype session, the Pasadena third graders were able to see firsthand Ghanaian culture, foods, transportation and weather. The Ghanaian students even performed a traditional African song for their American counterparts called “Kpanlogo,” which commemorates the country’s 1957 independence.
