GOP Mulling Special Election Choice To Oppose Suozzi

The Feb. 13 congressional race fills the void from George Santos' Dec. 1 expulsion.

Several people are reportedly being considered to run against former congressman Tom Suozzi for the 3rd Congressional District.

State senator Jack Martins is listed as a potential candidate, Axios reported.

Nassau County Legislator Mazi Melesa Pilip, an Ethiopian Jew from Great Neck, who served in the Israeli Defense Forces, is being considered as well.

Retired NYPD Detective Mike Sapraicone is also on the list, as the New York Post reported he had $500,000 in his campaign war chest to oppose Santos, before his expulsion last week.

Mike Deery, spokesperson for the Nassau County GOP, would not specify any potential candidates, but said they are "considering several individuals who have screened."

He said the plan is to have the party's choice next week.
