OLD BETHPAGE, NY — The Museum of American Armor in Old Bethpage will be hosting a brief ceremony and dedication on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m., and will have living historians in WWI uniforms and other re-enactors in the battle dress of American soldiers from Colonial times to present.

The museum will host a dedication of an operational replica WWI tank that helps tell the story of American veterans who have defended the nation throughout the centuries, Museum Vice President Gary Lewi said.

"The Armor Museum’s mission is to honor, remember, and serve as an educational center for a new generation to appreciate the legacy given to them by those Americans who have served," he said.

Lewi shared that Veterans Day is an opportunity to honor the heroes who have worn the uniform in the defense of freedom.

He said the WWI replica tank that will be dedicated will "remind our region that the legacy of those who have served long ago remains very much with us."

The event will include an invocation, remarks by Bill Barto reflecting on his father, and a bugler calling reveille.

Bill Barto's father is a WWI veteran, and the WWI replica tank that will be dedicated is the type his father declined to transfer to, for as Lewi said, "he did not want to forsake his horses in the cavalry."
