BETHPAGE, NY—On Thursday night, five million viewers tuned in for a live performance of beloved classic musical "Annie," broadcast as "Annie Live!" on NBC. The cast, with big names like Harry Connick Jr. and local child actors like Lily Tamburo from East Setauket, performed right here on Long Island, at Gold Coast Studios in Bethpage.

The three-hour-long show stayed true to the 1977 story of Annie and her orphan friends. The young performers performed gymnastics during "Hard Knock Life."

The production was the first at Gold Coast Studios to have an in-person, live studio audience since the pandemic began.

The producers of the show told the New York Times that the optimism of the story felt timely at this historic moment.

“Because it’s all about optimism, and it’s about how one young girl can change things and just open things up again — opening emotions, opening hearts. And I think we crave that now,” producer Neil Meron said.

The full show can be streamed on NBC's Peacock.

Gold Coast Studios is a family-owned movie and sound stage that was created on the site of former Grumman space in 2007.
