Police ID LI Man Killed In New Year's Day Hit-And-Run Crash

A 38-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by a medic, Nassau police say.

PLAINVIEW, NY — A Queens woman was charged with leaving the scene of a vehicular accident with a fatality after Nassau police say her SUV struck and killed a man crossing Old Country Road in Plainview on New Year's Day.

The 38-year-old man was crossing the roadway from north to south, near Floral Avenue when he was struck by a 2018 Jeep Wrangler traveling eastbound, and the vehicle did not stop and continued eastbound, according to police.

The victim has been identified as Kevin Lawry, 38, of Plainview, police said.

Lawry sustained serious injuries and was pronounced at the scene by a police medic, the department said.

After a thorough investigation, it was determined that Veronica Marmol, 39, of College Point, was driving the Jeep, and she was placed under arrest without incident, according to police.

She is scheduled for arraignment on Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.

It was not immediately clear if she has legal representation.
