Pair Of Plainview Students Earn National Merit Scholarship

PLAINVIEW, NY — A pair of high school students from Plainview have won National Merit Scholarships.

Matthew Kang and Richard Austin Wong, of Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School will receive the $2,500 scholarship prize.

Kang's likely career is in economics, while Wong is looking at biology.

This is the second round of this year's scholarship announcements.

Each semifinalist was asked to complete a detailed scholarship application, which included writing an essay and providing information about extracurricular activities, awards, and leadership positions. Semifinalists also had to have an outstanding academic record, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, and earn SAT or ACT scores that confirmed their qualifying test performance.
