PLAINVIEW, NY — Officials from Oyster Bay and Nassau County have dedicated a parklet in Plainview in memory of Captain Omer Neutra, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the Israeli Defense Forces.

The newly named Captain Omer Neutra Park, located at Phipps Lane and Marilyn Boulevard, stands as a permanent tribute to his courage, leadership and love of humanity.

“The Town of Oyster Bay never forgets its hometown heroes, especially the brave men and women who defend freedom around the world,” said Supervisor Joseph Saladino.

In April, the Nassau County Legislature announced the street renaming of Captain Omer Neutra Way in Plainview.

Neutra, a 2019 graduate of Schechter School of Long Island, was captain of his soccer, basketball and volleyball teams before deferring college at Binghamton University to join the Israel Defense Forces. The grandson of Holocaust survivors and son of Ronen and Orna Neutra — who, along with his brother Daniel, are dual American Israeli citizens — Omer rose to the rank of captain while overseeing a base near the Gaza border. On October 7, 2023, at just 21 years old, he was killed during the Hamas attack on Israel.
