Pasadena Elementary Students Get a Lesson in Weather Forecasting

Third Graders Receive a Visit from Professional Meteorologist John Marshall

Third graders at Pasadena Elementary School were recently treated to a hands-on introduction to the science of weather thanks to a special visit from veteran meteorologist John Marshall. The event was sponsored by the school's PTA.

As part of the visit, Marshall engaged students with discussions on Earth’s seasons, the planet’s tilt, and the stages of the water cycle. Students learned how professionals use tools such as wind vanes and anemometers to measure wind direction and speed, examined different cloud types, and discovered how to predict weather patterns and estimate the distance of storms.

The classroom was transformed into a mini newsroom for the visit. Using his mobile weather studio, which included a green screen, projector, and computer, Marshall gave students a genuine broadcast experience. Student volunteers stepped into the role of weather reporters, delivering a weekly forecast and reporting on natural events using the professional setup.
