PLAINVIEW, NY – Plainview Old-Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School’s DECA students organized a fundraiser on Saturday with Family Bagels to raise money for Stacy’s Warriors. They raised just over $3,000 for breast cancer research.

DECA students Kayla Denson and Dylan Bloom picked the nonprofit organization Stacy’s Warriors for their DECA project. Founded over 10 years ago by Stacy Brennan, Stacy’s Warriors is a 501C3 charity that raises awareness and funds to fight cancer. The charity said that it has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to cancer research over the years.

Brennan has been fighting cancer for over a decade and has gained her community’s support, love, and strength.

The students, along with teacher Lindsay DeLucca, planned the fundraising event, including marketing and campaigning to spread the word about it.

“They did an amazing job,” Brennan said. “I am so passionate about these events and working with really good students and people. These DECA girls really dedicated themselves to helping my charity and making the event a success. It’s more than just this one Saturday. I am so proud.”

The event was hosted at a local bagel shop, Family Bagels, which is one of many local businesses that have supported Brennan's mission over the years.

“They are husband and wife, and they are just wonderful people,” Brennan said. “They’re always opening their door to the community.”

Family Bagels is a family-run business, and co-owner Neal Schatt said their customers become part of their family. Schatt said they want to continue to show up for their community and Stacy’s Warriors.

“We make pink bagels for the month of October and donate money to breast cancer research,” he said. “Stacy’s just a little more special to us. We have known her and her volunteers for a long time.”

Schatt said the fundraiser on Saturday was one of many that Family Bagels has hosted.

“Not only is our business in the community, but we live here, too, and we try to help wherever we can,” Schatt said. “One day, the world might be a better place for it.”

Before moving to Commack, Brennan lived in Plainview for over 20 years, and was involved in the community with fundraisers, events, and even coaching cheerleading at POBJFK High School.

“Plainview is important to us,” Brennan said. “The people here have always opened up their hearts and donated to Stacy’s Warriors. Most of all, they show up.”
