POB Media Excels at 2025 BASH Awards
Student-Broadcasters Earn Awards Across Multiple Categories for In-Depth News Reporting
POB Media, the AV club at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School (POBJFKHS), had a standout showing at the 2025 Broadcast Alliance for Senior High (BASH) Awards. The club members earned accolades for their in-depth news segments in four out of the five categories they entered at the contest, which was held on May 22nd.
POB Media’s sports crew earned two 2nd Place victories in the Live Broadcasting and Best Sports Feature categories; Gavin Weingarten earned 3rd Place in the Cultural Arts & Entertainment Feature category; and Alex Wolfson claimed 3rd Place in the Community Feature category.
The awards ceremony, held at Hofstra’s John Cranford Adams Playhouse, recognized student talent from Nassau, Suffolk, New York City, and Westchester counties. Participants’ media broadcast works were judged by news industry professionals, with roughly 1,000 high school students and their teachers from across the region in attendance.

In addition to the awards ceremony, the POB Media students had the opportunity to take part in journalism and production classes taught by Hofstra faculty and active local media professionals.
