POBJFKHS Research Students Receive Top Honors at ISEF

Hailey Richman and Chloe Lee Earn 3rd and 4th Place, Respectively, in Prestigious ISEF Competition

Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School (POBJFKHS) research students Hailey Richman and Chloe Lee earned top awards in the prestigious International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), held this year in Columbus, Ohio on May 15th. The global competition featured nearly 1,700 young scientists from across 48 states and over 60 countries.

Hailey Richman secured 3rd Place and a $1,200 award in the behavioral science category for her project, “Using a Multimodal Approach of Aromatherapy and Jigsaw Puzzles to Improve Emotional Levels in Geriatric Populations Living with Alzheimer’s Disease.” Chloe Lee earned 4th Place and a $600 award in the same category for her project, “Investigating the Effects of Cannabidiol-Medium Chain Triglyceride Oil on Locomotion and Tap Withdrawal Response Using Caenorhabditis elegans as a Model for Alzheimer’s Disease.” Their research coordinators were Raymond Tesar and Rohe Sheikh.

“We are immensely proud of our research students, whose endless curiosity and hard work have been recognized on the international stage,” said POBJFKHS Principal Dr. Heather Dvorak. “Congratulations to Hailey and Chloe for their dedication, and to Mr. Tesar and Ms. Sheikh for their commitment to nurturing their students’ research abilities.”
