POBJFKHS Teacher Named Finalist in Teacher Appreciation Contest
Joseph Amorizzo Nominated by Student

Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School chemistry teacher Joseph Amorizzo was named a finalist in the Teachers Federal Credit Union Teacher Appreciation Week contest. Mr. Amorizzo was nominated for the recognition by one of his students, Olivia Ilardo.
In her nomination essay, Olivia described Mr. Amorizzo as a “passionate and patient educator who goes above and beyond to ensure his students grasp challenging material.” From creating supplemental video tutorials to offering extra help sessions, Mr. Amorizzo’s dedication fosters a supportive learning environment where every student can thrive.
Beyond teaching, Mr. Amorizzo makes a lasting impact on the community. He volunteers as a tutor, leads the school’s biannual blood drive, and supports the Twilight Program, an alternative education initiative for students in need of academic recovery. His mentorship inspired Olivia to pursue a career working with children.

“Mr. Amorizzo’s hard work and kindness motivated me to strive for the same level of dedication in my own life,” she wrote. “He doesn’t just teach chemistry; he helps shape futures.”
The Teachers Federal Credit Union’s contest recognizes outstanding educators across the country. The contest was in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, which runs from May 5th – May 9th, and honors the dedication and importance of educators across the world.
