Queens Man Scams 64-Year-Old Out Of $121K: Police

A man was scammed out of $121,000 after receiving a message on his iPad, police say.

PLAINVIEW, NY — A Queens man was arrested after an attempted grand larceny and elder scam on Monday, police said.

According to detectives, a 64-year-old man received a message on his iPad stating that it had been compromised. That prompted him to call a phone number, and then he was told he needed to withdraw his funds from the bank to safeguard his savings, police said.

He withdrew over $121,000 and handed it over to numerous unknown men, according to police.

After the man realized he was being scammed, he contacted police.

Enyi Chen, 44, was located by police and charged with third-degree attempted grand larceny and resisting arrest, police said.

He was released on an appearance ticket, but further investigation revealed that he is in the United States illegally and is subject to removal proceedings, police said.
