PLAINVIEW, NY — Sandwich shop Press 195 is expanding its footprint on Long Island. The latest location is set to open on May 4 in Plainview.

"It's a large sense of community there," owner Brian Karp told Patch. "Everybody seems to know each other."

Karp is hoping residents will want to try out the eatery at Morton Village Plaza on Old Country Road.

"We've seen tremendous foot traffic while constructing this store," he said. "We'd been getting a lot of people just stopping in and saying hello."

Karp has two other Press 195 locations. A Bayside, Queens shop opened in 2005 and their Rockville Centre location has been in business since 2010.

As he readied for a third shop, they compiled a list of top neighborhoods in Nassau County and Nassau/Suffolk County border.

"We didn't want to just come into any neighborhood," Karp said. "We want to be part of a neighborhood."

While Karp grew up in Rockland County, his business partner lives near Plainview.

"It's an area that we'll be part of, not just our restaurant," he said.

Incidentally, Press 195 takes its name from how they make their sandwiches and the address of their original Park Slope restaurant.

For now, Karp isn't thinking about bringing his brand to other areas across Long Island.

"We're so focused on just getting this place opened," Karp said.

When customers visit they can expect a different take on the usual fare of burgers and fries, but it's the sandwiches, and plenty to choose from, where Press 195 makes its mark.

One menu favorite is the "Number 38" which is grilled marinated sliced steak, avocado, sweet onion jam, fresh mozzarella with a creamy roasted pepper dressing.

"It's the most popular of our steak items," he said.

The Plainview location will have new salad options, while also offering "one of the most unique items": Knish sandwiches, including ones stuffed with brisket, vegetables, pastrami or pulled pork.
