Stop & Shop Donates $10,250 to Island Harvest
Donation Part of 'Community Assist' Program with the NY Islanders

Stop & Shop has teamed up with the New York Islanders to support Long Islanders in need. Islanders alum Butch Goring (1980-85), mascot Sparky and team employees joined associates from Stop & Shop as the supermarket presented a check for $10,250 to Island Harvest Food Bank as part of Stop & Shop’s “Community Assist” Program.
As the official supermarket of the NY Islanders, Stop & Shop donated $50 to Island Harvest Food Bank for every home game assist the Islanders made last season. With 205 home-ice assists this past season, Stop & Shop presented Island Harvest with a check for $10,250 – the equivalent of nearly 20,100 meals for people facing food insecurity across Long Island.
“At Stop & Shop, our number one charitable focus has always been to fight against hunger in the communities we serve, and we are proud to partner with the New York Islanders in this important initiative,” said Daniel Wolk, External Communications Manager at Stop & Shop. “Thanks to the Islanders 205 assists at home last season, we can make a substantial financial donation to Island Harvest. We are happy to know that these funds will help our Long Island community members gain greater access to food, as we continue our fight against food insecurity.”

Island Harvest Food Bank receives very little government support and relies on the generosity of organizations like the New York Islanders and Stop & Shop, both longtime partners in the fight against hunger and food insecurity on Long Island. Stop & Shop’s Meat the Needs, Food for Friends, Annual Turkey Express Program, and direct support are a few of the many ways the company supports anti-hunger organizations in the communities it serves. Likewise, the New York Islanders provide direct financial support and conducts food drives and hunger awareness programs supporting Island Harvest Food Bank’s mission to end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island.
“The Islanders are passionate about fighting hunger and have always been committed to assisting all of our friends and neighbors in the community,’’ said Ann Rina, Executive Director of Community Relations for the Islanders. “We are proud to partner with Stop & Shop as we support Island Harvest’s mission.”

“We are grateful for the efforts of New York Islanders and Stop & Shop, both long-time partners with us in the fight against hunger and food insecurity on Long Island,” said Randi Shubin Dresner, president & CEO, Island Harvest Food Bank. “It is because of these vital partnerships that we can provide much-needed food support and services for countless Long Islanders struggling to feed their families.”
