Vehicle Slams Into 7-Eleven Window In Drunken Driving Crash: Police

BETHPAGE, NY — A man drunken driving crashed his vehicle into a 7-Eleven in Bethpage, Nassau police said.

Andrew Malitzis, 61, of Old Bethpage, struck the Main Street store's front window pane late Friday afternoon, police said.

Malitzis had fled the scene in his red Toyota 4Runner. A short time later, though, the vehicle was involved in a collision with a grey Suburu at the intersection of Conklin Street and Main Street in Farmingdale.

When stopped by police on Hicksville Road, Malitzis had watery eyes, an odor of alcohol coming from his breath and a positive result from the field sobriety test.

During the investigation, Malitzis threatened the lives of officers at the scene, police said. He was placed under arrest. No one was injured.

Malitzis is charged with two counts of driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired, fourth-degree criminal mischief, third-degree menacing and making a terrorist threat. He was expected to be arraigned on Saturday.
