Today’s opportunity is Hygiene Kits for Babies for the Sharing Shelf. Among the things that SNAP benefits — or food stamps, as they were previously known — do not cover are hygiene products. Thousands of cash-strapped families are struggling right now to provide food and shelter, and hygiene products, including essentials for newborns and babies, have become a luxury they cannot afford. Volunteers are needed to help address this basic human need, and reduce stress on new parents, by collecting and assembling essential items — such as unscented baby wipes, diaper rash cream and baby shampoo — into hygiene kits to keep newborns and young infants clean and protect them from diaper rash.
