PORT CHESTER, NY — An alpaca in transit seized the opportunity to explore Port Chester, but the adventure was a little overwhelming.

Fortunately, the Port Chester police were ready to help keep the animal safe and calm, until the owners arrived to offer the runaway camelid a sight for sore eyes.

The vehicle transporting the alpaca was traveling on nearby I-95, when the rear gate of its trailer popped open, according to police. While, by all accounts, the animal enjoyed its time in the New York Sound Shore village, that only made the reunion with its family that much sweeter.
