Clay Art Center New Spring Classes Start Soon

Registration is open now for a diverse line-up of classes for both adults and children, from beginners to skilled artists.

PORT CHESTER, NY — Time is running out to put your spring fever to productive use because classes are starting soon.

Are you looking to get creative this spring? You can get centered with clay in one of the Clay Art Center's adult or youth spring term classes running from May 1 - June 18. Whether you are a beginner or quite experienced, they have handbuilding, wheel throwing and special topic classes planned. There are several adult and youth multi-week and one-time classes to choose from.

Adult Classes

  • Introductory classes will include "Intro. to Handbuilding," "Intro to Wheel Throwing" and "Pottery for Beginners" and will be offered nights and weekend.
  • Special topic classes will include: "Adorned: Ceramic Jewelry Basics," "Introduction to Colored Clay," "Maiolica Workshop," "Mold Making & Slip Casting" and "Raku Firing".
  • One-time "Maker Night" classes perfect for friends or dates will be offered on Friday nights through June 17. You will be walked through the basics of throwing on the potter's wheel and will be able to create a unique piece of pottery, then choose a glaze. Pieces will be fired and available to be picked up on a later date. This event was a Best of Westchester 2020 "Best Artsy Night Out" winner.

Youth Classes (ages 10-16)

  • Award-winning multi-week classes starting May 1, including "Clay for Tweens" (ages 10-12) and "Clay for Teens" (ages 13-16).

Family Classes

  • One-time "Saturday Clay" classes will give parents/guardians and their children the chance to explore their inner artists in a 2-hour introduction to clay. These classes will be offered every other Saturday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. through June 18.
  • One-time "Family Wheel Night" classes will allow parents/guardians and their children (ages 10+) to learn to use the potter's wheel. These classes will be every other Saturday from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. until June 18.

Private Lessons

  • A great way to help advance your handbuilding and wheel throwing skills. Available on a more flexible schedule for individuals and small groups.

Parties for Adults & Youth

  • A fun creative event for groups of friends and/or family. Several handbuilding or wheel throwing (ages 10+) projects will be offered for party attendees to make pieces that will be fired and ready to pick up on a later date.
  • Adult parties: plan a birthday party, team building exercise or check in with friends.
  • Kids (ages 6 - teen): plan a birthday party, scout meeting, school event or weekly play date.
