PORT CHESTER, NY — The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has received a Brownfield Cleanup Program application and draft remedial investigation work plan for a big chunk of downtown Port Chester, and invites public review.

The site covers 128, 132-134, 136-138 and 148 North Main Street.

It is currently occupied by businesses including a grocery store, theater, restaurant, bakery and laundromat. The rest of the site is covered by an asphalt parking lot. Most notably, from the years 1919 to prior to 1990, a large garage with at least two gasoline underground storage tanks was on the site — hence the brownfield designation.
